My phobia of animals was cured!

Nada’s Story

Most of us are scared of something, but we manage to manage our fears, usually through avoidance tactics. Phobias though are very different. These extreme fears often seem irrational to non-phobics, but to sufferers the relentless dread of possibly encountering the thing they fear the most can cause untold misery.

That’s how it was for Nada. She was literally petrified of animals and this can really make life difficult, because so many people have pets and animals are pretty much part of everyday life. Often animal phobics will be fixated on a specific creature; spiders, dogs and snakes coming high on the list of most common. However, Nada’s fears extended to a substantial list of commonly occurring animals and her anxiety about confronting anything from a dog to a spider meant she had to plan her life around avoiding potential encounters. She knew she had to do something about it and after reading an article about my work in Friday Magazine, she got in touch to see if I could help.

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy is one of the most effective treatments for phobia sufferers as it transforms the brain’s fear responses on a sub-conscious level, gradually allowing you to expose yourself to the thing you fear most in a highly structured and supportive environment. Even though Nada’s fear had gone into overdrive, during a course of sessions, I was able to minimize those extreme responses and bring her to the point where she could keep her irrational thoughts under control. And I think the pictures speak for themselves regarding how successful it was for her! Now she’s able to go about her daily life free from the anxiety that had caused her so much heartache. In her own words…

The Hemmings Way
“I never thought I’d ever be cured of my phobia, and I certainly never ever pictured myself having the confidence to enter a cage with tigers, but that’s exactly what I did do on a holiday to Thailand! Meeting Russell has completely changed my life. My phobia was such a big part of every single day and it stopped me from enjoying life to the full. Now it doesn’t even enter my head and whenever I encounter an animal I feel totally calm. The transformation is amazing.”
