Bruxism

Bruxism is the term used for the grinding of teeth, which usually happens during sleep and can lead to oral and general health problems. Most people clench or grind their teeth at some point but when this becomes habitual the teeth can be damaged and other complications with the jaw and gums can arise.

There is no singular cause of bruxism and various factors can instigate the condition. It may be due to stress, problems with communication skills or suppressed feelings such as frustration or anger.

Bruxism
  • Worn, broken or chipped teeth
  • Extra sensitive teeth
  • Inflamed or receding gums
  • Facial pains
  • Ear ache
  • Headaches
  • Sleep disruption to you and/or your partner

How hypnotherapy can help you with bruxism

Before hypnotherapy is considered, a visit to the dentist is the wisest course of action. A dentist may be able to fit a guard to reduce the damage caused by the grinding of teeth. However, to treat bruxism fully and successfully the underlying causes of the behaviour must be indentified and this is where hypnotherapy can truly make a difference. A course of Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy will address the issues that induce bruxism, replacing negative thought processes with positive ones that will bring you peace of mind, reduce your bruxism and so alleviate dental problems and pain, giving you a good night's sleep.

What a bruxism sufferer says...

“Amazing after the bruxism treatment I slept really well and I woke up with my mouth open. Never done that before! Still got a little tension in my jaw and tongue but much better and my partner has informed me I’m not grinding any more. I’m keeping my gum shield just in case but don’t think I’ll be needing it.”
